SHERMAN, JAMES E.

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James (affectionately known as Sherm), who departed this world on November 2, 2023 at the age of 71. He left us to be with the angels, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Sherm was born on April 29, 1952 in Breckenridge, MI, the son of Robert E. Sherman and Joyce L. (Stillwell) Sherman. He had a passion for travel, and after exiting the US Air Force, he was an over the road trucker for Beacons Van Lines and lived Phoenix, AZ. Sherm moved with his family back to Michigan in 1984, where he worked in the construction industry as a glazer. In 2007 he moved “away from the cold” and settled in Payson, AZ, where he opened shop as a handyman and general contractor.

Throughout his life, Sherm was a man of integrity and a role model to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He led by example, showing us the value of hard work, determination, and compassion. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident in everything he did, from coaching little league baseball to traveling long distances to be with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Sherm found solace and joy in fishing, hunting, and camping in the backcountry of Arizona. He shared his passions with those around him, mostly notably his sons, whom he spent many trips camping in the forests of Michigan.

Sherman is survived by his sons Joshua (Krystin) Sherman of Greenfield, IN and Nathan (Sarah) Sherman of Payson, AZ, 3 grandchildren and sisters Mary Sherman and Ellaine Jursick. He was preceded in death by his parents.
