Accused murderer to stand trial in Mt. Pleasant
An Isabella County man accused of running down a dirt bike rider in October will face trial on an murder and other charges.
Judge Sara Spencer-noggle on Wednesday ordered Allen Leroy Sprague to face trial on an open count of murder, failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, reckless driving causing death, assault with intent to murder and felonious assault in connection with the death of Dylon Edward Dean Andras and the attempted murder of Ted Treloar in Coldwater Township Oct. 25.
During the preliminary examination in Specer-noggle’s Mt. Pleasant courtroom Wednesday, Treloar and another witness testified, along with police, who said Sprague admitted to hitting Andras — who was riding dirt bikes with Treloar in northwestern Isabella County — but denied it was intentional, Isabella County Prosecutor David Barberi said.
Sprague is accused of killing Andras after chasing him and Treloar while the two were riding dirt bikes in the 7000 block of West Stevenson Lake Road Oct. 25.
Sprague told police that he and his girlfriend, who previously had a relationship with Andras, were at home that day and heard something that sounded like “things hitting the house,” which apparently was Andras and Treloar.
Sprague is alleged to have followed the two in a truck, and running over Andras at the Brinton Road intersection before chasing Treloar, according to court records.
Sprague said he called police after he hit Andras’ bike.
During testimony Wednesday, some witnesses said they thought Sprague was driving upwards of 70 miles per hour after hitting Andras and following Treloar, Barberi said.
Sprague next faces arraignment in circuit court, which has not yet been placed on the court calendar.
