Canterbury East, Oxford Row water shut-off avoided at last minute

A Mt. Pleasant apartment complex owner’s last-minute payment for a past due water bill averted shutoff, as residents there and at other Millennia Housing Management-owned properties throughout the country continue to complain about unsafe conditions.

Many expressed fear that their water — included in their rents — was about to be shut off and there was nothing they could do about it.

Mt. Pleasant Spokeswoma­n Darcy Orlik said Millennia’s water bills at Oxford Row and Canterbury East were paid as of 10:10 a.m. Thursday, after residents took to social media to complain about the Ohio-based Millennia not paying the water bills that are included in the rent.

Millennia, which also owns

Issues at Millennia-owned properties include a fire [in Arkansas] that killed three people in October 2022; the death of a mother and child in September 2022 in a carbon monoxide leak at a Mississipp­i property; and an explosion from a gas leak at a Florida property in 2019 that hospitaliz­ed seven people.
