ELLSWORTH, PASTOR SHIRLEY A.

Pastor Shirley A. Ellsworth, age 86, of Sumner went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 26, 2024, at her home. She was born June 3, 1937, to Hershel and Marcella (Epler) Roberts in Alma, Michigan. Shirley worked at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center from 1967 and took an early retirement in 1992. After living in rural Shepherd, Michigan for 22 years, and raising six children, Shirley and her husband Roger moved to Sumner, Michigan. They were founders of the Sumner New Hope Tabernacle, which was establishe­d in 1986. Shirley was a Shepherder­dess of a very faithful and loving flock, whom she considered family even though not related only by the blood of Jesus. She was ordained and received her Doctorate Degree through the United Christian Church and Ministeria­l Associatio­n and also from the United Christian Internatio­nal Bible Institute. Shirley leaves behind her six children, Paul (Peggy) Good, Rocky (Joyce) Good, Steven (Bonnie) Good, Darryl (Linda) Good, Cheryl (Jerry Don) Herring and Lance Ellsworth; 13 grandchild­ren and several great grandchild­ren. Also, a very special person and very dear to her heart, Eugene A. Groeneveld. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, Roger and her sister and brotherin-law, Virginia and Vernon King. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11 am at the Sumner New Hope Tabernacle with Rev. James Maynor officiatin­g. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 am until the time of services at the church. Burial will be held in Sumner Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to the care of Lux-moody-wolfel Funeral Home, Alma.
