AILING Princess Kate’s unraveling marriage and humiliating family fake photo scandal have exploded into another devastating crisis the struggling monarchy can ill afford, say well-placed palace sources.
The future queen’s fairy tale marriage is now said to be hanging by a thread after whispers spread that her husband, Prince William, was romancing their stunning neighbor Rose Hanbury while Kate, 42, recovers from grueling abdominal surgery.
“Kate was apoplectic as the gossip spread through high society circles,” a high-ranking royal courtier tells The National ENQUIRER. “I’m told she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, especially as she goes through a slow, painful recovery.”
Blueblood Rose, 40, and her moneybags husband, moviemaker David Rocksavage, 63, live close to William and Kate’s country retreat, Anmer Hall, and are old friends of the royal family. “There has long been talk that with her pedigree Rose would have been an ideal match for William,” confides the courtier. “People say he’s carried a torch for her for years and has told friends she was ‘the one that got away.’
“I hear Kate confronted William when rumors first surfaced he was having an affair with Rose several years ago, but he denied everything and even tried to laugh off the chatter. But she’s having none of it now!”
More trouble erupted after sources say Kate was urged to issue a photo with her three children — George, 10, Charlotte, 8, and Louis, 5 — to commemorate Britain’s Mother’s Day on March 10 and stifle talk of her illness and marriage woes.
But stressed-out Kate unintentionally exposed the marital rift when she amateurishly manipulated the family photo. Among other edits, she erased her wedding ring from the image before okaying its publication.
“The fact she put out the photo without her wedding ring indicates there really is trouble in paradise,” notes the palace insider.
Kate was forced to confess she’d edited the photo, and sources say cancer-stricken King Charles ordered the couple into damage control.
They were soon photographed leaving Windsor Castle together in a chauffeured car, but the picture that emerged hardly presented the image of loving spouses. “They looked like two strangers who wanted to be anywhere other than in that car together,” reports our palace spy. “Kate was looking away from William as he focused on his phone, seemingly ignoring her.
“Kate knows the pressure is on her and William to resolve their issues for the sake of the crown, but this latest scandal could be the final nail in their marital coffin!”
