VAIN Yellowstone stud Kevin Costner is shooting himself in the foot by spiffing up with Botox, hair plugs and other beauty aids because it’s a big turnoff for his hippie galpal Jewel, reveal sources.
“Jewel likes him a lot, but she’s told him he needs to stop this obsession with his appearance if he wants her to stick around,” spills a spy. Costner, 69, and songbird Jewel, 49, first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted spending time together on Richard Branson’s Necker Island while attending a fundraiser for her Inspiring Children Foundation.
But according to our mole, the aging hunk’s vanity is coming between him and his ladylove. “She liked him for his swashbuckling, cavalier attitude, but now he’s spray tanning every few days, pinning his ears back, wearing makeup and dying his hair,” tattles the tipster. “This isn’t the man she thought she knew.” As The National ENQUIRER previously reported, sources say the two hit a bumpy patch earlier this year after Jewel nixed his plan to shack up together.
“They’re not seeing a lot of each other right now, and Kevin seems to feel that the more he spruces himself up, the more it’ll turn her on,” says the insider.
“But the reality is the opposite. “She’s not into all the Hollywood phony-baloney, so she sure as heck doesn’t want to be with a man who’s caught up in that shallowness. If Kevin wants to hang on to her, he needs to cool it with all the socalled self-improvement.”
