This Western Apache Olla basket dates to the turn of the 20th century, circa 1890 to 1910. Measuring 14¼ inches in height and 14½ inches in diameter, it is constructed with a 3-rod willow foundation and has willow and devil’s claw stitching. Horizontal bands of rectangular blocks are arranged in a striking checkerboard design. The rim and black designs were executed in devil’s claw. The basket’s condition is remarkable, particularly for a piece of its age.
