5 TIPS FOR COLLECTING POTTERY
Charles King, owner of King Galleries, shares his insights for collecting Native American pottery.
1 Look for well-constructed pottery. The piece should not be crooked or have surface flaws.
2 If stone polished, check out the evenness of the polishing and the overall shine.
3 Make sure the vessel is not overfired.
4 Look at the painting or carving and, while it is handmade and there will be some reflection of that, you also want to see precision or creativity in the designs.
5 Check out younger artists—they are a good way to start collecting.
