Central Connecticut State upended by Columbia
Dante Miller rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown and Ty Leenhart added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Columbia football team, which defeated Central Connecticut State 41-24 in a non-conference game at New Britain Saturday.
Josh Bean and Dillon Davis both tossed touchdown passes for Columbia (1-0). Jacob Dolegala threw for 320 yards and a touchdown for Central Connecticut (1-2).
Wesleyan 52, Middlebury 21: Sean Penney rushed for three touchdowns as Wesleyan scored 24 unanswered points to complete the first half in this season opener for both teams at Middletown.
Glenn Smith finished with a team-high 71 rushing yards and Dario Highsmith finished with a team-high 87 receiving yards for Wesleyan. Ben Thaw added a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown for Wesleyan.
Western Connecticut 32, Plymouth State 28: Quarterback David James completed 23 of 29 passes for 283 yards and tossed a pair of touchdowns to lead Western Connecticut in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams at Plymouth, New Hampshire.
North Branford’s Austin Calamita finished with a game-high 122 receiving yards and a touchdown for Western Connecticut.
