Hopkins blanks Morristown-Beard

Douglas Guilford rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Hopkins football team, which defeated Morristown-Beard 21-0 Saturday in a Metropolit­an League win at Morristown, New Jersey.

Michael Lau and Owen Sherman also scored touchdowns for the Hilltopper­s (2-0).

Cheshire Academy 38, Worcester Academy 12: Jack Brandon threw for four touchdown passes for Cheshire Academy (1-1) in a prep school win at home.

Andre Carter caught two of those touchdowns and both Jared Martino and Jack Roberge each rushed for 80 yards for the “Cats.

BOYS SOCCER

Xavier 1, Hand 0: Brendan Montano scored early in the second half and the goal stood up for Xavier (3-0) which snapped Hand’s 10-game winning streak in an SCC contest at Middletown. Christian Wade saved eight shots to earn the shutout for Xavier while Clayton Knibbs collected four saves for the Tigers (2-1).

Morgan 4, Norwich Free Academy 0: Zach Tuccitto and David Saturno both scored twice as Morgan (4-0) won the nonconfere­nce game at Clinton.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hopkins 7, Masters (N.Y.) 0: Ella Fujimori had a goal and an assist as seven different players scored in the first half for Hopkins (2-1) in a Faircheste­r League win at New Haven.

FIELD HOCKEY

Hand 1, Glastonbur­y 0: Jacqui Sandor scored in the first half off of assists from Maeve Connors and Erickson Richard to help Hand (3-0) take the nonleague game at Madison.

CROSS COUNTRY

Wilton Invitation­al: Shelton’s Robert Dillon won the 5,000-meter Wilton Invitation­al in 16:10.14 while Fairfield Prep’s Azaan Dawson placed second (16:18.53). Kabir Chavan from Fairfield Ludlowe finished third (16:34.61).

Edward Tristine from Prep placed fifth while Nicolas Burtson from Hopkins was eighth. Shelton was the overall team winner while Hopkins captured the Small Varsity Boys Division.

Pomperaug’s Kate Wiser won the girls’ 4,000 by almost a minute (14:21.25). Glastonbur­y’s Angela Bradda was second (15:19.06).

Kellenberg Memorial (N.Y.) won the large division while Guilford won the small, paced by Meredith Bloss’ ninth-place finish.
