New Haven man guilty of gun charge
NEW HAVEN — A 29year-old New Haven man pleaded guilty to a gun charge Thursday, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney for Connecticut.
Carlos “Buddha” Barnes, 29, pleaded guilty to possession of firearms by a previously convicted felon before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Hamden police arrested Barnes in 2019 after they found him in possession of a Taurus Millennium G2 9 mm handgun and a Springfield XD-40 .40-caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number.
Barnes previously had been convicted of carrying a pistol without a permit, sale of illegal drugs and firstdegree robbery. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Barnes faces up to 10 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 5.
