Yale Golf Course tentatively set to reopen on Sept. 28
Yale Golf Course is tentatively scheduled to open on Sept. 28, Mike Gambardella, Yale’s associate athletic director and director of strategic communications, confirmed on Tuesday.
New course general manager Peter Palacios Jr. addressed the tentative opening in an email to members, which was obtained by Hearst Connecticut Media. Palacios is starting his new position this month, coming East from the
Eau Claire Golf and Country Club in Altoona, Wisconsin, where Palacios was the general manager and chief operating officer.
The news of the tentative reopening was first reported by Anthony Pioppi from Turfnet.com.
The Yale Golf Course has been closed since last November. Previous announcements from the university had the course opening by the end of July, then through the end of August.
In an August email to course members announcing Palacios’ hire, Yale athletic director Vicky Chun said she hoped to re-open the course by mid- or late September.
“We look forward to having professional, on-site management in place to provide the Yale Golf Course with the time and attention it deserves as we operate and devise a path forward,” Chun said in the email. “Please note, however, that after years of physical and financial neglect, multiple personnel changes, COVID-19
restrictions and most recently tropical storm damage, this will take time.”
Palacios replaces Peter Pulaski, who stepped down as director of golf operations in June. A course superintendent has not been in place since Scott Ramsay left on March 5 to take the same position at Country Club of Farmington.
