EAST HAVEN — Town Hall, which has been closed to the general public since Nov. 6, will stay closed through Jan. 4 “due to the continued increase in COVID-19 cases in our community” and the surrounding area, Mayor Joe Carfora said.

As things currently stand, “there is an increased risk for the spread of COVID-19 infection to Town Hall employees,” Carfora — who is still at home recovering from his own bout with coronavirus — said Friday in a release.

“In an effort to keep town hall employees safe so that town government can continue to function, the East Haven Town Hall will be closed to public traffic through Jan. 4,

2021, with limited exceptions for essential services by appointment only,” Carfora said.

“While we continue to work hard to limit any disruption to public services, we do request the public’s co-operation by only requesting in-person appointments when absolutely necessary, and conducting routine business with the town via email, online through the website, through the mail or by telephone,” the release said.

The mayor’s administration, working with the East Shore District Health Department, “continues to monitor and evaluate the situation in our community and the surrounding area,” it said. “Additional information regarding the status of Town Hall will be provided no later than 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29.”
