Miriam Ratner, 98, of New Haven, CT, devoted wife of the late Harold Lloyd Ratner, died peacefully at Montefiore nursing home in Beachwood, Ohio, home on Friday, December 25, 2020.

Miriam was born in West Hartford on October 29, 1922 to the late Charles and Etta Miller. She was older sister of J. David Miller (Susan) of Gaithersbu­rg, MD, and was predecease­d by a sister Louise Miller Egalka (Carl). She was the beloved mother of the late Arthur Ratner of New Haven. She is survived by two children, Gary Ratner (Barbara) of Atlanta, GA, and Leah Ratner (Paul Sobel) of Beachwood, OH and by her daughterin-law, Betsy Ratner of Milford. She was the cherished grandmothe­r of Howard Ratner (Shilo) of Bethany, Hilary Lade (Tom) of Powell, OH, and Jeremy Chesler (Taylor Mullin) of Louisville, KY. Ohio. In addition, she will be remembered by her four great-grandchild­ren, Indigo and Sage Ratner of Bethany and Samara and Elliott Lade of Powell, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Miriam was a graduate of the University of Hartford. She worked as an administra­tive assistant, bookkeeper, and office manager for a number of New Haven firms, with her longest tenure at Keystone Bottle, Inc. As an active member of Congregati­on Beth El Keser Israel for a span of seven decades, her participat­ion there included a three-decade tenure as Sisterhood Treasurer. She was also a long-serving volunteer at New Haven’s Jewish Home for the Aged. Deep into her nineties, she helped with “Box City”, an architectu­ral education component for children and part of New Haven’s Festival of Arts and Ideas (establishe­d by her late son, Arthur) as well as a participan­t in the Jewish Coalition for Literacy reading to young students. Funeral services will be at Beth El Keser Israel Cemetery, Farwell Street in West Haven on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:30 pm .
