LeTourneau to be featured in traprock ridges program
NEW HAVEN — Author, educator, and environmental scientist Peter M. LeTourneau will be featured in a virtual presentation from the New Haven Museum in March, according to a release.
The presentation, based on LeTourneau’s book, “The Traprock Landscapes of New England: Environment,
History and Culture,” will explore the lofty traprock ridges in New Haven and the Connecticut Valley that “create an extraordinary landscape that has been celebrated
by artists, outdoor enthusiasts, and scientists for generations,” the release said.
Photography by Robert Pagini also will be featured, the release noted.
LeTourneau, a Connecticut native, is a research affiliate of the LamontDoherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, and a visiting scholar in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Wesleyan University
in Middletown, the release said.
“Tracing the influence of natural history on cultural development in the Connecticut Valley, he asserts that the rocky highlands are landscapes of national significance, where the combination of geology, geography, water resources, climate, and human settlement fostered vital developments in Early American science, education, agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and the creative arts,” the release said.
The presentation will be held at 6 p.m. March 18 on Zoom, the release said. To register, visit www.newhavenmuseum.org/visit/events-calendar.
