John J. Williams, 90 of North Haven, passed away peacefully Monday, February 22, 2021 at home. He was the loving husband of Joyce Porto Williams for 68 years and the love of her life for over 76 years. He was born on May 6, 1930 in New Haven, son of the late Mary Kent and Frederick Williams. After high school, John attended Boardman Trade School in New Haven before serving in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Conrail after working as a Master Mechanic on the railroad for 43 years. In his spare time, he liked to travel with his wife and dear friends Mary and Dominic Nuzzo. John was also a diehard Giants and Yankees fan. John leaves to cherish his memory his wife Joyce Williams, a sister Mary Ford of New Haven, his children Debra DeMartino of New Haven, Diane Artaiz of Northford, John (Joanne) Williams, Jr. of West Hartford and Keith (Margaret) Williams of West Palm Beach, FL. John was the Poppy to eight Grandchild­ren: Nicole Kelly, Stephanie Giannone, Rachael Caggiano, Jeffrey Artaiz, Venessa Carson, Skylar Williams, John Williams III, and Brendan Williams as well as eight Great Grandchild­ren: Mercedes, Emme, Anna, Faith, Penelope, Lily, Jack and Maeve. He was predecease­d by his brothers George Williams, Fredrick “Duke” Williams, Lawrence Williams, Sisters: Rose Fralick, Helen Furtak, and Annmarie Williams, as well as his son Lawrence Williams. Our fondest memories will always be of Macaroni Night at Nini and Poppy’s that were filled with love, laughter and craziness. A special thanks to the staff members at Marbridge Assisted Living who provided care, concern, friendship and love for our dear Poppy.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial MONDAY MORNING at 10:00 in the St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church in North Haven. Interment with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There will be NO CALLING HOURS. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
