Breweries: Delivery to your door

Deadline is three weeks prior to publication.

- By Erik Ofgang

Under loosened restrictions thanks to the pandemic, beer delivery has been a hit with producers and consumers. Here are six breweries that will bring craft beer right to your door — as long as the state keeps allowing it, anyway.

Twelve Percent Beer Project, North Haven

Delivers to all of Connecticut • Minimum order: $45.

Twelve Percent Beer Project is a brewing collective that contract-brews beer for several different brands, including nationally known companies such as Evil Twin Brewing and Connecticut ones such as Fat Orange Cat Brew Co. As a result, Twelve Percent’s beer offerings change on a weekly basis, but there is always a lot of variety. “We have a constantly changing menu so we don’t recommend anything in particular,” says Alex Blank, one of Twelve Percent Beer Project’s co-owners. “We are a collective of a dozen brands just trying to make the best beer we can.” Some recent offerings included a popular New England-style IPA and a fruited sour flavored with strawberry, pink guava, Tahitian vanilla and lactose. 203745-3983, twelvepercentbeerproject.square.site

Reverie Brewing Co., Newtown

Delivers to the Newtown area, western Connecticut and other towns by request if they line up with package store delivery routes • Minimum order: At least three fourpacks.

Reverie offers delivery on the first Friday of each month (orders need to be placed by midnight the day before). Managing member and cofounder Ryan Broderick recommends first-time customers

get a variety case. Full cases are discounted and give customers a chance to sample the brewery’s full offerings, which run the gamut from barrelaged stouts to New Englandstyle IPAs to gruits, a rare medieval style of beer that is made without hops. The brewery also offers hard seltzer and recently received a wine and cider license. It is the first brewery in the state to start producing its own hard cider as well as beer. 203-872-2124, reveriebrewing.com

OEC Brewing, Oxford

Delivers to much of Fairfield, New London, New Haven and Hartford counties; out-of-area deliveries can be arranged • Minimum order: $50.

Founded in 2014, OEC is known across the state and even nationally for its intense, complex and wonderfully tart

sour beers and other barrelaged and naturally fermented brews. However, in recent years the brewery has also produced non-sour “clean” beers including a pilsner, lager and several IPAs. Owner Ben Neidhart recommends firsttime customers try the Coolship Lager, a crisp, clean and approachable beer, but adds, “Since we have a big assortment of offerings, customers should feel free to email us and we can give them specific recommendations.” Fans of more unusual beers may want to try sour offerings like Tempus or Exilis, or the wonderfully offbeat Kalvis Jupiter, which is made with kombucha. oecbrewing.com

Black Hog Brewing Co., Oxford

Delivers to all of Connecticut • Minimum order: $50.

Tom Sobocinski, one of

Black Hog’s owners, says the brewery started offering delivery last June and “saw that guests felt more comfortable having their beer delivered right to their door.” The practice has continued for customers who still prefer to keep out-of-home activities to a minimum, as well as those who just enjoy the convenience. “If someone is ordering from our brewery for the first time we recommend our Hazy CT Style IPA,” he says. “If they like darker stouts then they can’t go wrong with our Choosy Moms or Leaves A Mark Imperial Stout. At 11.5% ABV, those are great beers to have delivered and drink at home.” 203-262-6075, blackhogbrewing.com

Brewery Legitimus, New Hartford

Delivers to locations within 30 miles of New Hartford •

Minimum order: $30.

Co-owner and co-founder Christina Sayer says her brewery started offering delivery last April. For first-timers, Sayer recommends their most popular brews — Dr. Strangehaze New England IPA, Counter Surfer Brown Ale and Church Pool Kolsch. “For those looking to get something unique we have Maple Girl, our Belgian Tripel made from local maple sap in place of water. We aged this 12.5 percent beauty in three different barrels — a cinnamon whiskey vanilla extract barrel, a bourbon maple syrup barrel and a cognac maple syrup barrel.” Each version of this beer is offered in its own bottle. 860238-7870, brewerylegitimus.com

Norbrook Farm Brewery, Colebrook

Delivers to all of Connecticut, with same-day delivery for locations within a 30-mile radius of Colebrook • Minimum order: $30.

This brewery is located on a 472-acre farm with 30 acres dedicated to growing hops, grains and hay. There are also sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys, an 18-hole disc golf course and more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails. But those who can’t make it to this brewing oasis can do the next best thing by getting the product of this farm brewery brought to their front door. Owner John Auclair says IPA fans ordering for the first time “should try Birthday, a hazy double IPA that is one of our most popular. Dark beer fans should try the Ol’ Man McMullen’s Porter for a nice rich roasted brew.” He adds, “On the lighter side we offer the Dennis Hill Estate Saison or Cog Ale Kolsch style; very solid, very popular.” 860-909-1016, norbrookfarm.com
