Derby schools appoint new business manager
DERBY — The city’s public schools have a new business manager.
The Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint John Passarelli to the position last month.
He joins the school district from the Production Resource Group in New Windsor, N.Y., where he served as director of finance and financial planning and analysis.
Passarelli replaces Mark Izzo, who is retiring at the end of the school year, according to the school district, and will help introduce Passarelli to the role.
Izzo said in a prepared statement he was happy to welcome Passarelli to the district.
“I am excited to welcome John to the Derby public schools family,” Izzo said. “He has an extensive financial management background and will provide the district with outstanding financial stewardship as part of Dr. (Matt) Conway’s leadership team. Congratulations and good luck John!”
Passarelli’s first day was Feb. 22. The position pays $125,000.
Passarelli has a bachelor’s in business administration from Pace University and an MBA from
Mount Saint Mary College.
Board of Education Chairman Jim Gildea said Passarelli will be a welcome addition.
“John brings many years of service in the area of finance and we are confident he will continue the strong foundation that has been created by our previous business manager, Mark Izzo,” he said. “John has proven that he is a relationship builder and we look forward to working with him as a board and watching him work with the various stakeholders and city officials.”
Conway said Passarelli “embodies our Derby family values and comes to the table with not only a strong financial background but someone who has a reputation of not having ‘a bad bone in his body, a great guy and even better employee.’
“We are excited to welcome John to the family,” Conway said. “John will have the opportunity to learn from the best, as retired business manager Mark Izzo will help introduce John to all aspects of the role of a school district business manager.”
