Lifetime plans ‘Gone Mom’ movie based on Jennifer Dulos case
A+E Networks’ Lifetime Television plans to release a movie in June on the disappearance of New Canaan mother Jennifer Dulos.
The film, called “Gone Mom,” is based on the events of her May 2019 disappearance, and the criminal investigation into her estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, the company said. The movie stars Annabeth Gish as Jennifer Dulos and Warren Christie as Fotis Dulos and is set to air at 8 p.m. June 5.
Jennifer Dulos, a 50-year-old mother of five, was reported missing on May 24, 2019. She was last seen after dropping off her children at a New Canaan school that morning.
She has never been found, but police said she is presumed dead based on the evidence found in the garage of her home where they said she was the victim of a “serious physical assault,” according to arrest warrants.
A spokeswoman for Jennifer Dulos’ family and friends declined to comment about the movie. Chief State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo, who was prosecuting the case against Fotis Dulos, also declined to comment.
Fotis Dulos was first arrested on June 1, 2019, and charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence after state police investigators said surveillance footage showed him throwing away items in Hartford’s North End the night of the disappearance, arrest warrants state. The bags were later determined to contain Jennifer Dulos’ blood and clothing, according to the arrest warrants.
In arrest warrants, investigators detailed how they tracked a red Toyota Tacoma owned by an employee of Fotis Dolus’ homebuilding company, Fore Group, the day of the disappearance.
Investigators believe Fotis Dulos drove the truck that day to New Canaan and was “lying in wait” for his estranged wife to return home that morning, the arrest warrants said.
Investigators said Jennifer Dulos’ blood was found inside the pickup truck, the warrants state.
Fotis Dulos’ attorney, Norm Pattis, said the defense was looking into a “Gone Girl” theory about the disappearance, a nod to the 2012 novel by Gillian Flynn in which a woman in a troubled marriage vanishes and frames her husband for murder.
Fotis Dulos was charged with murder on Jan. 7, 2020, after the chief state medical examiner ruled that, based on the evidence, Jennifer Dulos suffered a nonsurvivable injury, according to the arrest warrant.
Fotis Dulos’ former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, and his longtime friend and lawyer, Kent Mawhinney, have each pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in the case. Troconis has also pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution charges.
Investigators believe the three conspired to kill Jennifer Dulos and clean up the crime, court records show.
Fotis Dulos, who maintained his innocence, died from a suicide on Jan. 30, 2020, two days after police said they found him in his running SUV inside the garage of his Farmington home.
