GOLF BALL DROP: East Haven Rotary Club is holding a “Great Golf Ball Drop Raffle,” in partnershi­p with the Foxon Recreation League. 1 p.m. Sept. 18, when a helicopter will drop 1,500 numbered golf balls onto the Foxon Recreation League’s field (aka “The Pit”) on Maple Street in the Foxon area of East Haven. The ball that lands closest to the marked target in the field with win the holder of the ticket that matches that numbered ball, $1,500 in cash. BRENNER PRIZE CONTEST: The company LH Brenner has set aside 10,000 worth of cash prizes specifical­ly for PAL programs in Connecticu­t. STONE-OTIS HOUSE OPEN: The StoneOtis House, orange, is open every Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Admission is $3 per person, free under 12. The house was built in 1830 by Dennis Stone, who as a farmer, tilled the land but soon became a selectman, postmaster, constable, and tax collector and a well-respected man by the town’s citizens.. The house was restored by the Orange Historical Society representi­ng Stones as well as the second owner, Charles Otis, an inventor and machinist. Both families have ancestral history worthy of their place in modern times, members said.

WEST HAVEN CONCERTS: The West Haven Centennial Concert Series will conclude Sept. 5 with What a Fool Believes, a Doobie Brothers Tribute, 7 p.m. the Grove. Rain date Sept. 9.

CANCER CARE WALK/RUN: The Annual 5K Walk/Run to benefit the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby, will be back as an in-person event to celebrate its 13th year

TRASH PICKUP: Due to the Labor Day holiday there will be no trash or recycling collected Sept. 5 in the town of Shelton; the collection will be on Sept. 7. For the rest of the week, residents are advised to put out their Trash and Recycling on their normal scheduled day. If it is not picked up on that day, it will be on the following day. The Transfer Station and the City Yard will be closed Sept. 6, and reopen Sept. 7.
