STAMFORD — Silgan Holdings, one of the largest suppliers of consumergoods packaging, has announced two acquisitions totaling more than $270 million.

With the $237 million purchase of Spokane, Wash.-headquartered Unicep Packaging, Stamfordbased Silgan has added a company that develops unit-dose packaging for a range of consumer products and provides liquid and gel contract filling services.

Unicep operates two manufacturing facilities, in

Spokane and Sandpoint, Idaho. It is projected to generate approximately $45 million in sales in 2021, according to Silgan officials.

“Unicep is a clear leader in the rapid development and manufacturing of differentiated precision-dosing dispensing packaging solutions for applications in health care, diagnostics and personal care,” Silgan CEO and President Adam Greenlee said in a statement. “This acquisition further expands and extends our precision-dosing capabilities and comprehensive product offering into new and existing markets.”

Following last week’s announcement of the Unicep acquisition, Silgan said Monday that it had acquired Italian firm EasyTech for $36.5 million. EasyTech manufactures and sells easy-open and sanitary metal ends used with metal containers, primarily for food applications in Europe. It operates a manufacturing facility in Fisciano, Italy, and it is projected to produce approximately $45 million in sales in 2021, according to Silgan.

“We have had an excellent longstanding business relationship with Easytech and have great respect for its owners and management team. We are excited to now welcome Easytech to the Silgan team,” Greenlee said. “This acquisition will allow our combined businesses to more effectively and efficiently utilize existing capacity for metal ends, reduce capital investment in the near term and accelerate completion of an ongoing cost reduction program.”

Silgan ranks No. 530 on this year’s Fortune 1,000 list, with 2020 sales of nearly $5 billion. Its primary lines of business are dispensing and specialty closures, metal containers and custom containers.

The company operates 113 manufacturing facilities across North and South America, Europe and Asia. In Connecticut, it has production centers in Deep River, Thomaston and Watertown.

“The company takes great pride in the fact that its products contain some of the world’s best known branded consumer products, including Campbell’s Soup, Del Monte Fruits and Vegetables, Listerine and Friskies Pet Food,” the company says on its website. Last month, Greenlee took over as CEO, adding to his role as president. He succeeded Tony Allott, who had held the position since 2006. Allott now serves as the company’s executive chairman.

About 15,600 people worked for Silgan as of June, according to the company’s profile on fortune.com. The company’s main offices are in the Landmark Square complex in downtown Stamford.
