Alfred L. Mongillo Jr., age 75, entered into eternal rest on October 1, 2021, at The Linden at Woodbridge. He was the beloved husband of fifty-three years to Madeline Riccio Mongillo. Mr. Mongillo was born in Derby on March 3, 1946, son of the late Alfred Sr. and Nora Bertozzi Mongillo. Al graduated from Derby High School in 1963 where he played baseball and was the captain of the Derby Red Raiders football team. He then went on to graduate from the University of Connecticu­t School of Engineerin­g in 1967. While there, Al served as Captain of the Rifle team. Al was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft, in Stratford, for 40 years until his retirement. He was the Chief of Loads and Criteria in the Structural, Loads and Materials Technology Branch of Design and Engineerin­g. During his employment at Sikorsky, Al participat­ed in their golf and softball leagues. Al took great pride in coaching Little League, Babe Ruth baseball, Biddy basketball, CYO basketball and girls’ softball all in Derby. He was a former member of the Derby Jaycees. While living in Derby, Al was an active member of St. Jude’s Church where he served on their board of trustees. After moving to Seymour, he became a communican­t of the Church of the Good Shepherd Church (St. Nicholas Parish), in Seymour, where he was an usher, a member of the Pastor’s Advisory Board and volunteere­d for their Homefront program. Al enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and boating, especially his excursions with family and friends on his boat, the Mi-Jenn II. Al was a lifetime member and Past Commander of the Milford Power and Sail Squadron. Most importantl­y, Al enjoyed hosting and entertaini­ng with his family. In addition to his wife Madeline,

Al leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Michael R. Mongillo (Dr. Maria Boeke Mongillo) of Orange, a daughter, Jennifer L. Mongillo of Prince Rupert, BC Canada, grandchild­ren, Leah and Nicole Mongillo and Adam and Noah Kloppers, nieces, Mary Farrell (Michael) of Derby and Susan Riccio of Orange, and a sister-in-law, Jennie Riccio of Orange, along with several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predecease­d by a brother-in-law, Louis Riccio. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Face masks required for entry. On Friday, October 8, 2021, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. (meeting directly) at St. Jude’s Church, 71 Pleasant View Road in Derby. Entombment will immediatel­y follow in Mount St. Peter’s Mausoleum in Derby.
