Seeking votes in Killingworth

-

I am Nancy Gorski, running for first selectman in Killingworth. Killingworth is a beautiful town with wonderful neighbors and a great sense of community. Our many volunteers help to make the town safe, beautiful, and historic. There is also much work to be done, and I am ready to get started.

Public health and safety are a priority for me and our entire slate of candidates. COVID remains a high risk. I respect everyone’s opinions regarding masks, but we must ensure we follow state mandates as required in our public spaces.

Killingworth town buildings and residential homes have been impacted by PFAS. My home is in an impacted area. I need to work with residents and the state to ensure local wells are remediated. We need to partner with state officials to identify the source and plan for future mitigation.

With crime on the increase, we need to team up with our state trooper, residents, businesses, and nearby towns to understand what can be done to communicate risks to our community and improve public safety.

I welcome input from residents and the Chamber of Commerce on potential business development. Several vacant properties could serve well for small businesses, and I look forward to recruiting businesses to these properties.

We have many capital improvements over the next two years. The modular units in town hall need to be replaced. The fire station needs updates to improve the use of the facility for our first responders. We need to understand what it would take to remediate structural issues in the historic town barn and look for potential funding grants.

Most importantly, I will listen to residents and businesses and be transparent in my communications. I look forward to being of service to you and encourage everyone to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
