Source: President Joe Biden to visit Connecticut later this week

President Joe Biden is set to visit Connecticut later this week, according to a source familiar with discussions about the trip.

The source confirmed that Biden will make an appearance in the state on Friday. Biden is likely to appear in the Hartford area, the source said, but the time and place of his visit have not been made final.

The White House has not yet confirmed Biden’s visit, but Biden has been traveling across the country to tout two sweeping infrastructure bills, including the $3.5 trillion Build Back Better Act.

Biden’s push for infrastructure, a key campaign platform, which promises a historic investment in American transportation, climate solutions and child care.

This would be Biden’s second visit to the state since the start of his presidency. In May, he delivered a commencement speech at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London.

Members of the Connecticut Congressional delegation, including Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, have not announced a Biden visit, nor has the office of Gov. Ned Lamont. In an appearance in Greenwich last week, Lamont said the smaller of the two infrastructure bills represents about a billion dollars a year for Connecticut transportation and broadband initiatives.

DeLauro, as chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, is directly involved in negotiations over the second bill, a sweeping measure that would permanently and sharply increase the child tax credit; create universal child care for children younger than kindergarten; and add vision, hearing and dental coverage to Medicare.

“It means 10 minutes off your commute into New York City,” Lamont said, adding that much of the potential revenue from that bill would go into modernizing railroad tracks and bridges.
