Cops: Pedestrian killed, man shot in weekend incidents
NEW HAVEN — A pedestrian was killed and a man shot in separate incidents over the weekend, according to New Haven police.
Officers “responded to the intersection of Norton Street and Stanley Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian being struck” soon before 8 p.m. Friday, Officer Scott Shumway said in an email Tuesday.
“Responding officers learned that the pedestrian was struck by a motorcycle while attempting to cross the street. American Medical Response transported both the pedestrian and the operator of the motorcycle to Yale New Haven Hospital where the pedestrian was pronounced deceased and the operator of the motorcycle was treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” said Shumway. “The New Haven Police Crash Team responded to the scene and continues to investigate.”
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning, Shumway said. The identity of the pedestrian was not immediately released.
Around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police received a 911 call regarding a person shot on South Genesee Street between Harper Avenue and East Ramsdell Street, Shumway said.
“The victim, a 21-year-old Hamden man, drove himself to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition,” said Shumway.
Shumway asked that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the department contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
He said callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 866-888-TIPS(8477), or texting “NHPD” plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES).
