LOOKING AHEAD

No 7 Quinnipiac men (2-0-1) vs. No. 6 North Dakota (3-1), Friday-Saturday, 7 p.m., Perrotti Arena: Quinnipiac welcomes the Fighting... Hawks, a preeminent program, to Hamden for the first time in a top-10 matchup. It also welcomes fans back to its home barn after playing to a closed house last season. This is a rematch of the 2016 national final, and Quinnipiac has not defeated North Dakota in four all-time matchups. The Hawks have nine NHL draft picks, including Jake Sanderson, the fifth pick to Ottawa in 2020.

Sacred Heart men (1-3-0) at Maine (0-2), Friday, 7:30 p.m., Saturday, 5 p.m.: The Pioneers’ road swing through New England comes to a close in Orono. They’ll get home to open their conference schedule next weekend. The Black Bears have a new coach, Ben Barr, after the passing of Red Gendron in April.

UConn women (6-0, 2-0 HEA) at Merrimack (0-6-1), Friday, 2 p.m.: The Huskies are in the middle of three consecutiv­e games against Merrimack on three different weekends. Whatever works for UConn, which picked up a vote in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll.

Yale women vs. St. Anselm (1-3), Ingalls Rink, Friday, 6 p.m.: It’s game night for real at Ingalls for the first time, men or women, since March 8, 2020. The Bulldogs open with two games against NEWHA teams.

Yale women at Sacred Heart (2-4), The Rinks at Shelton, Saturday, 5:30 p.m.: The neighbors haven’t met in seven years, and that was a pretty handy Yale victory, like the meeting before it. But they’re set to meet at least twice this season, including Jan. 4 at Ingalls.

Quinnipiac Men vs. Holy Cross (0-3-1 before a weekend series with Bentley), Tuesday, 7 p.m., Perrotti Arena: First-year coach Bill Riga returns to Hamden, where he was Rand Pecknold’s right-hand man for a long time. “It’s going to be emotional. I spent 13 years of my life there. I met my wife there. I had my kids there,” Riga said on the Atlantic Hockey preseason conference call. “There’s a lot of people that I really care about there. It’s going to be emotional for sure. But we need to get past that and get down to it because they are an extremely, extremely talented and deep team this year.”

UConn men (2-3-0, 1-1 HEA) at Northeaste­rn (2-2, 0-1 going into Saturday vs. Colorado College), Tuesday, 7 p.m. (NESN): The Huskies split ... Wait. UConn’s Huskies split their Hockey East opening series with Boston University. Northeaste­rn’s lost their opener to Boston College.

The No. 7/8 Quinnipiac women are off until Oct. 29. The Yale men open Oct. 30 at Brown.

LOOKING BACK

The Quinnipiac women split a home-and-home with No. 9/10 Providence, 2-2 and 1-1. Senior Logan Angers stopped 21 of 23 in the first game, and grad student Corinne Schroeder made 32 of 33 saves in the second.

Senior Ryan Steele scored the winner with 13 seconds left as the Sacred Heart men scored a 3-2 upset win at No. 12 Boston University. The Terriers came back to win 4-1 the next night.

The UConn women swept their weekend games, 1-0 over Maine and 5-3 over Merrimack, spreading out the offense . ... Goals from seniors Wyatt Bongiovann­i and Michael Lombardi paced the Quinnipiac men past Vermont. The Bobcats held Vermont to 14 shots, none in the first period, for grad student Dylan St. Cyr’s first shutout.

Junior Alexa Ocel and sophomore Paige McNeil scored goals, but the Sacred Heart women were swept at LIU, 3-1 and 2-1 (overtime), to begin their NEWHA schedule . ... The UConn men were swept at Ohio State, 4-3 in overtime and 3-0. Junior Roman Kinal, sophomore John Spetz and senior Jachym Kondelik had a goal and an assist apiece.

AWARDED

Graduate-student forward Taylor House scored two of Quinnipiac’s three goals in two ties against Providence and was named ECAC women’s player of the week . ... Senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle was Hockey East’s women’s goalie of the week, stopping 49 of 52 shots with a shutout against Maine . ... Sacred Heart freshman defenseman Hunter Sansbury was Atlantic Hockey’s men’s rookie of the week, blocking five shots in two games.
