Kathleen Mary Shields,

62, passed on from this world on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. She left us too soon, but left a legacy of love and generosity that will stay with us always.

Kathy grew up in Wallingford, the second of June and Jack Shields’ six children. She graduated from Lyman Hall High School, attended the Connecticut Business Institute and Quinnipiac University, and worked for more than 30 years at the Knights of Columbus headquarters in New Haven. Most recently, she worked for R&L Carriers in Wallingford. She was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.

She’ll be remembered as a loving daughter and sister, a loyal friend and an incredibly generous soul. She particularly doted on her nine nieces and nephews, and took tremendous pride in every one of their accomplishments. They will always remember their “tickle aunt.”

Kathy had enormous enthusiasm for the little pleasures in life – family gatherings, dinner with friends, sending cards for every holiday (possibly including Arbor Day.) She laughed often and with her whole body. She sent notes and gifts to the nurses and aides who cared for her when she occasionally landed in the hospital. She loved travel and Christmas and spoiling everyone around her – including our pets. She brought great joy to us all.

Kathy is survived by her mother June; brothers John, Jim (Mauri) and Bill (Kara); sisters Maura (Greg) and Mary; former sister-in-law Tracy; and nieces and nephews Johnny, Sophie, Kelsey, Connor (Hillary), Quinn, Aidan (Meaghan), Tess, Kirby and Will. She was pre-deceased by her beloved father Jack.

Kathy’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 21st, from 4 to 7 p.m. in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m., directly at Church of the Resurrection, 115

Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford. Interment will be private. Memorial donations in her memory can be made to the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, P.O. Box 3489, Newtown, CT 06470 (www. sandyhookpromise.org). Online register book and Livestream of the funeral mass can be found on her online obituary at: www. wallingfordfh.com
