Couple dead after apparent murder-suicide in Seymour, police say
SEYMOUR — Investigators are continuing to probe an apparent murder-suicide at a local home late Tuesday, according to police.
The department said on Wednesday morning that officers responded to a 911 call just before 10 p.m. Tuesday to a Manners Avenue home for a report of two dead elderly individuals at their home.
The police department identified the individuals as a husband and wife, but have yet to release their names. They were 78 and 80 years old, police said.
“Identifications have been made. Next of kin (have) been notified,” Deputy Chief Michael Fappiano said.
Police said there have been no recent domestic calls made from that address. A firearm was recovered, police said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families,” said First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis.
Officers met with the male caller who said he drove to the home after he was unable to reach his parents and was concerned. He said when he found them both dead, he called 911.
“Officers responded to the scene and determined that there was no danger to the public and this death investigation is likely a domestic-related murdersuicide,” police said.
The investigation is ongoing, with Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad aiding local police in collecting and processing evidence.
All authorities have since cleared from the scene.
While the incidents appear unrelated, this was the second emergency call for the neighborhood that day.
Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, residents were asked to avoid the intersection of Maple and Pearl streets as crews dealt with a reported gas leak and explosion. There was no immediate update on this incident Wednesday.
