Doris (Dot) E. Blackmon was born in Greenville, South Carolina on August

12, 1931 to Ebb and Jessie S. Blackmon. She was one of 10 children; six girls and four boys: Ebb, Jr. Catherine Dawson, George Blackmon, James Blackmon, Mamie Kelly, Harold Blackmon, Jesse Blackmon, Margaret Tucker and Patricia Harris. Doris and her family were introduced to Seventh Day Adventist through a tent effort which were held in Greenville, South Carolina. After the tent effort the Blackmon family began to attend church services on Sabbaths (Saturdays) and camp meetings during the summer.

Doris attended Sterling High, for one year, which was the only Black High School in Greenville, South Carolina. She and her family moved to New Haven, CT (Oak Street) on November 5, 1948, with the hope of pursuing a new educationa­l system that would lead to new promises and opportunit­ies.

Doris landed a dream job at Seamless Rubber Company in New Haven, CT. Dot (Aunt Dot), known by many, worked at Seamless Rubber Company for 25 years.

Sister Doris Blackmon became an active worker for the Lord at the Mount Zion SDA Church. She was a church pianist, Sabbath School Teacher, Senior

Choir Director, Deaconess and usher. She spent over three decades working in the cradle roll room. If you ever walked by the cradle roll room, you would hear the melodious sounds of children accompanie­d by Sister Doris Blackmon on the piano. Upon retiring from the Seamless Rubber

Company, she took a year off to rest. Once the year was completed, she began her new career in the childcare industry (The Harris & Tucker School) as a Senior Volunteer for Agency on Aging, which she did for over 25 years.

Doris Blackmon was a Child of God, kind to everyone she met, an entertaine­r/ hostess, very intelligen­t, a cook, fashionist­a, pianist, master duck pin bowler, queen of telling jokes, a table games genius, a puzzle guru and a world class traveler. She also played a huge role in introducin­g all of her nieces and nephew to the art of playing the piano and musical experience­s.

A celebratio­n of her life will be held Sun. May 1, 2022 at 3 P.M. at Mt. Zion Seventh Day Adventist Church, 335 Putnam Ave. Hamden, CT 06517. Viewing 2 P.M until time of service. Interment will be held Mon. May 2, 2022 at 10 A.M in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Services of comfort entrusted to McClam Funeral Home, 95 Dixwell Ave. New Haven, CT 06511.
