Robert E. Kelso
Robert Earl Kelso, 89, of Bethany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April
28, surrounded by family. Robert was born in Bridgeport on December 15, 1932, the son of the late Robert J. and Meta Boldt Kelso. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Inez Diamond Kelso. He is survived by daughters, Heidi (New York, NY) and Betsy (Stamford, CT); Heidi’s fiancé, Grantham Cowell (New York, NY); brother-in-law, Charles Diamond and his wife Sharon (Chestnut Hill, MA); their children, Michael and Samuel; cousin, Linda Tettelbach (New Haven, CT); nieces, Jennifer (Greg) Liddell of Mesa, AZ, Beverlee (Tim) Hutchins of Websterville, VT, and Sally (Tom) Brennan of Ormond Beach, FL. He is also predeceased by sister, Eunice; brother, Carl; and brother-in-law, Robert Diamond, whose fiancé Carmen Corvino joins the family in mourning.
With his gregarious sense of humor and warm heart, Robert was known for his kindness and loved dearly by everyone who knew him. He met and married the love of his life, Inez, while earning his Bachelor’s degree from New Haven State Teachers College (now Southern Connecticut State University). He earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education from the University of Maryland, and began working as a teacher, then spent most of his career as a general contractor and owner of Bethwood Construction Company.
An avid athlete, Robert played first-string football in college, and went on to play in Connecticut’s minor leagues during the 1960s. He passionately loved skiing and enjoyed the sport well into his 80s. A lifelong animal lover, he and Inez rescued the family’s treasured pet, Max, who became his constant companion.
