Gertrude T. Lerman

Gertrude T. Lerman, 105, passed away on May 11,

2022, in Hamden, Connecticut. She was born on June

19, 1916, in New Haven, CT. Gertrude was the daughter of Frank and Bessie Teitelman. She was the youngest of her siblings: Helen Teitelman Hoffman (deceased) and Sidney Teitelman (deceased). Gertrude graduated from Columbia University as a dental hygienist.

On May 24, 1941, Gertrude married Edward M. Lerman. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2010. For many years, Gertrude worked part-time in Edward’s dental office as a hygienist. She would take advantage of her time in the office to mark off weeks so that they could take trips. They once took a trip around the world. Gertrude loved to travel. She also loved to read and was always singing. She was an active member of her community, even going in person at the age of 104 to cast her vote for the 2020 election to make sure her vote was counted!

Gertrude and Edward had two children, Susan Lerman Ronayne (Maurice) and Richard Alan Lerman (Susan Hancock), who died in 1980. She had two grandchildren, Michael Lerman (Leslie) and Marcie Lerman Apelt (Mark), whom she loved very much. Her two great-grandchildren, Jake Apelt and Madeline Lerman were the light of her life.

She also leaves her nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Sunday morning May 22, at 9:30 o’clock at the B’nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Avenue, New Haven, CT. The Robert E.
