Edward J. Morrell, Sr., 90, of North Haven died peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022. He was the beloved husband of sixty-seven years to Joyce Morrissey Morrell. Ed was born in New Haven on June 16, 1932, a son of the late Irving and Edna Cronoque Morrell, and had resided in North Haven for the past sixty-one years.

He was a lifelong member of the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Heat & Frost Insulators, Local #33, and for many years owned and operated A.IS., Inc. of Wallingfor­d, CT. Ed was a proud U.S. Airforce Veteran and served his country in the Korean War. He loved basketball, and proudly played into his golden years with the Silver Seniors of North Haven, CT. After retirement, he continued playing with teammates in Estero, Florida, where he enjoyed the winters with his wife, family and friends. His proudest moment was when he won the Senior Basketball Olympics with his teammates in the Sunshine State. Ed was also an avid New York Yankees fan and could argue the game of baseball with the best of them. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Productive Order of Elks. In addition to his wife Joyce, Ed is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Morrell Hoffman and her husband Jerry of North Haven, two sons, Edward J. Morrell, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Guilford and Timothy Morrell of North Haven, six grandchild­ren, Brian Morrell, Hailey Morrell and Timothy Morrell, Jr., Kristen Hoffman Mellaci and her husband Joseph, Justin Hoffman and Jesse Hoffman and his wife Stephanie, and a great-granddaugh­ter Lucy Joyce Mellaci.

He was predecease­d by a daughter, Julie Morrell Keefover, four sisters, Edna Heery, Ethel Heath, Shirley Klemenz and Rita McBride, and five brothers, Joseph, John, Walter, Irving and George Morrell.

Ed's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
