Alphonse (Al) Acampora, 87, a long-time resident of West Haven, most recently living at Maplewood of Orange, passed away on January 26, 2023 in Milford Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Marie (Urbinati) Acampora. Al was born in East Haven to the late Anthony and Mary (Esposito) Acampora and spent most of his young life there where his family owned and ran The Sparkling Cave Restaurant. Al graduated from East Haven High School and became a Computer Operator for CS Leete in West Haven. He also worked in custodial services for the West Haven Board of Education before his retirement. Al and Marie enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad, and equally enjoyable to them was time around their kitchen table visiting with family and friends. Al was a member of the Columbians Club, and an avid sports fan, most notably the New York Yankees, New York Giants and UConn Women’s Basketball. In addition to his wife Marie, he leaves behind nieces and nephews: Carol Chichester, Mary LeClair; Anthony Poirier, Carl Acampora, Jodi Acampora and KC Acampora; grandniece­s and nephews, Heather Pettis, Keirsten Poirier, Darrell Chichester Jr, Jonathan Poirier; great-grandniece­s, Alayna and Khaya Chichester, Sydney and Maddie Pettis. In addition to his parents, Al was predecease­d by nephew Vernon Acampora. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews by marriage: David, Elisa, Gene, and Michael Urbinati; Lauretta and Ray Olivi; Kristin Bacon.The family would like to thank the wonderful medical personnel at Milford Hospital for their loving care and kindness.

Services will be held in the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven Saturday morning at 10:30. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call SATURDAY MORNING from 9:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the
