Dave Matthews Band to stop in Connecticut on summer tour

- By Andrew DaRosa

The Dave Matthews Band is once again trekking to Connecticut on its upcoming summer tour. A frequent stop on its previous summer tours, the band will play the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford on June

10.

The tour was announced in conjunction with the band’s upcoming album, “Walk Around the Moon,” which will be released May 19. The album includes new songs as well as tunes that have been in the band’s live repertoire like “Madman’s Eyes,” “Break Free” and “Something to Tell My Baby.”

Matthews’ last performance in the state was last September during the inaugural Sound On Sound music festival in Bridgeport. Matthews and his collaborator, Tim Reynolds, headlined Sunday, which included other artists like Brandi Carlile, The National, Gary Clark Jr. and Noah Kahan. The lineup has not been announced yet for the 2023 edition of the festival.

The full band’s last performance in Connecticut was last June at the Xfinity Theatre.

The band’s upcoming Xfinity Theatre show will be Matthews 51st performance in the state. It is also the first announced concert of the summer at the Hartford venue.

Over the past three decades, nobody has played outdoors in Connecticut more than Matthews. That is a fact, according to Jim Koplik, president of Live Nation Connecticut and Upstate New York. “It’s a record — nobody has played 50 times,” Koplik told Hearst Connecticut last year. “Dave is unquestionably the No. 1 live performer in the history of Connecticut, outdoors.”

The de facto leader of DMB has become a live music staple in Connecticut, with his concerts being a sort of ritualistic coming-of-age activity for New Englanders. Songs like “Crash Into Me” and “Ants Marching” have become anthems for his ever-growing audience of “frat bros,” ’80s and ’90s babies and everyone in between.

Pre-sale tickets will be made available through the band’s Warehouse fan club. Tickets for the general public will be on sale Feb. 17.
