HAMDEN — A suspect in a fatal 2021 shooting was apprehended Wednesday, according to local police.

Ryan Moore, 35, of New Haven, was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit, said Sgt. Angela Vey, public information officer for the Hamden Police Department. Moore was held on a $2.5 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, Vey said.

Hamden police responded to the intersection of Goodrich and Butler streets shortly after midnight on Aug. 8, 2021, for a report of a shooting victim, according to Vey. The victim, later identified as Tyishoun Matheney, 27, of New Haven, was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and pronounced dead several hours later, Vey said.

The shooting occurred in the vicinity of a corner store named Family Grocery. Initial police reports stated that Matheney was shot in the back after a verbal altercation and shot several more times after falling to the ground.

Det. Jomo Crawford and members of the Hamden Police Department's Major Crimes Unit investigated the shooting with the assistance of the New

Haven Police Department, the state Department of Correction, the New Haven Correctional Intelligence Unit and the FBI, according to Vey. Moore was in the custody of the Department of Correction

on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest, Vey said.

Moore's arrest is the second in connection with Matheney's homicide. Brian Ward, 30, of New Haven, was taken into custody at state Superior Court in Meriden in early September. Ward fired a handgun at the suspect after Matheney was struck, police said.
