Mary Blewett

-

Mary Blewett, a 95 year-old Ansonia resident, passed away on September 24, following a short stay at Griffin Hospital. She was born January 4, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Trophim and Julia Andrechuk. A member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ansonia, Mary spent the first part of married life raising her four children and later worked for Laurel Heights Hospital in housekeeping until it closed and later retiring from Newington State Hospital.

Mary enjoyed a long retirement with her husband, Bill, traveling to visit family around the country and spending winters in Florida. She was an avid gardener and grew beautiful flowers, which were enjoyed by walkers who passed by. She loved animals and the wildlife that would visit her backyard gardens. She especially enjoyed visits from her grand cats, Destiny and Tripp. She was a fan of the Mets and the Jets, which made for fun times with Bill being a Yankee and Giants fan. After Bill passed, Mary told family she had lived a good life, and they take comfort that she and Bill are reunited again.

Mary was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Bill, and her eldest daughter, Janice Barton (Hewitt). She leaves behind a son Bill Blewett of Ansonia, and daughters Nancy Blewett of Byron, GA, and Karen Black (Tracy) of San Antonio, TX, granddaughters Micaela Ortiz (Matt) of Nampa, ID, and Erica Hall (Scott) and great-grandsons Noah and Nathan Hall of Apopka, FL. She is also survived by a brother, John Andrechuk, of Oxford, CT.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, has been privileged with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Ansonia or to the charity of one’s choice.
