EAST HAVEN — Police say two men were arrested early Sunday morning after fights at a Main Street bar led to a shooting.

East Haven police said Edwin Colon-Perez, 23, and Jose Rodriguez-Diaz, 25, were arrested after gunshots were heard at Rumba Café on the 600 block of Main Street around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.

Police said an officer was working bar closing detail when he heard several gunshots fired. Police said arriving officers observed a large crowd dispersing from the bar and found multiple fights happening inside the establishment.

The gunshots were determined to have been fired in the rear of the building into the ceiling, police said, adding no victims were located at the scene. Police said officers identified Colon-Perez and Rodriguez-Diaz as the

suspects.

Police said a K-9 officer and his dog found two firearms under a trash can on an adjoining property. Both of those firearms were determined to have been stolen in other states, police said.

Police said Colon-Perez, a New Haven resident, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a pistol without a permit, seconddegree breach of peace and possession of a controlled substance. He is

being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in New Haven on March 20.

Rodriguez-Diaz, who is also from New Haven, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer. Police said he was held on a $5,000 bond and will appear in the same court on March 20.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
