Surrounded by his loving family, Robert “Bob” T. Mace, age 80, peacefully entered into eternal rest at home on October 14, 2021. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was born on Feb. 9, 1941, the son of the late Richard and Josephine (Mead) Mace. He is survived by his loving wife Justine (Hine) Mace and daughters Michelle (Ian) Sarsfield, Jennifer Mace, Katerie (Brian) Sciaraffa, Amy (Shane) Burgan and much beloved grandsons Brian (Chelsey) Myers, Steven Sciaraffa, Phineas, Theodore and Conor Burgan. Bob is also survived by his sister Mary Lou Deptula, with whom he shared a love for UCONN basketball teams and the New York Yankees. He was predecease­d by his older brother Richard J. Mace. He also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, and his lifelong friends.

Bob was a 1958 graduate of Ansonia High School and member of the football team. He graduated from Fairfield University in 1963. In 1966 he married the love of his life, Justine. He had a long career as a manager of the Life Insurance Department at Travelers Insurance in Westport. He also proudly served as a firefighte­r with the Charters Hose Co. No. 4 for many years. Additional­ly, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (Ansonia).

Bob was a deeply religious man and a devoted parishione­r of the Church of the Assumption. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with them, including trips to Ireland and Barbados. A true sports fan, he attended Ansonia Chargers football games whenever he could.

Family and friends may call on Monday, October 18th at John T. Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N Cliff St., Ansonia from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family respectful­ly requests that all visitors attending Funeral Home Service as well as Funeral Mass wear face masks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., with friends asked to go directly to The Church of the Assumption. Interment will immediatel­y follow in Mount Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Bob’s memory may be made through the funeral home to the Church of the Assumption, Ansonia Gridiron Club, or Charters Hose Co. No. 4.
