UNH drops Assumption to stay unbeaten in NE-10
Zach Mauro rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown as New Haven beat Assumption 16-10 on Saturday in West Haven to remain unbeaten in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The win sets up a showdown next Saturday between the Chargers (7-1, 6-0 NE-10) and Bentley, which is also 6-0 in conference play.
Quarterback Connor Degenhardt added 38 yards rushing and a touchdown for UNH in Saturday’s win, while the defense recorded a safety late in the fourth quarter on an intentional grounding in the end zone by Assumption.
Assumption fell to 4-4 (4-2 NE-10).
WCSU 56, Worcester State 30: At Worcester, Mass., Mack Driver rushed for a school-record seven touchdowns and was one of three WestConn players to finish with over 100 yards rushing.
Davis finished with 136 yards on 17 carries for WCSU (4-5, 3-3 MSCAC). His seven scores surpassed Octavias McKoy's five rushing TDs, which he accomplished on three different occasions.
Chad Blaszky led all rushers with 149 yards on 19 carries, while Roy PennConsentino added 104 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Ke'Vaughn Davis had nine catches for 148 yards and three touchdowns for Worcester State (2-6, 2-4).
MIT 21, Coast Guard 7: At New London, Tafari Wall had the lone score for the Bears on a 12-yard reception in a NEWMAC loss.
Damaso Jaime led Coast Guard (2-6, 0-4 NEWMAC) with 107 yards receiving on three catches.
Brady Klein scored a pair of touchdowns for MIT (4-3, 2-2).
Williams College 42, Trinity 3:
At Williamstown, Mass., Joel Nicholas finished with 172 yards and three touchdowns as the Ephs handed the Bantams their first loss of the season.
William Kirby was the leading rusher for Trinity (6-1).
Dan Vaughn had a rushing TD and a recieving TD for Williams, which improved to 7-0.
Amherst 16, Wesleyan 14: At Middletown, the Mammoths erased a 14point deficit to hand the Cardinals their first loss of the season in four overtimes.
Wesleyan (6-1) built its advantage in the first half on a Charlie McPhee 1-yard touchdown run and a McPhee 5-yard TD reception.
Turner Garland and PJ Clementi had touchdown receptions for Amherst (5-2) in the second half.
CCSU 49, Merrimack 21:
at North Andover, Mass., Aaron Dawson ran for 164 yards on 36 carries and scored a touchdown and Central Connecticut scored six touchdowns in the first half.
Blue Devils’ (2-6, 2-2 Northeast Conference) quarterback Romelo Williams had scoring runs of 5 and 1 yards in the first quarter. Central Connecticut went on to score four touchdowns in a six-minute span in the second for a 42-0 advantage.
The Blue Devils ended a five-game losing streak. Central Connecticut’s 49point effort was its highest since a 49-28 win over Robert Morris on Nov. 16, 2019.
Westin Elliott threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns for the Warriors (4-4, 1-3). Tyler Roberts had 116 yards receiving on seven receptions for two scores.
