Surrounded by his loving family, Raymond Henry Bauer, 87, of Guilford, Connecticut passed away on May 23, 2022. Predeceased by his wife Paula of 54 years, his parents Charles and Evelyn Bauer and his brother Walter Bauer.

Ray answered to many names throughout his lifetime, including Dad, Grandpa, Opa, Opapa and Schatzi by his beloved wife Paula. He was “Dad” to Petra and Mike Alpen, Harry and Kathy Bauer, Doris and John Gianforte and Raymond and Kathy Bauer; “Grandpa” to Jason and Michelle Alpen, Christen and Kenny Moore, Jennie and Chris Maher, Becky Gianforte and Diana Pepin, Nick and Kristen Bauer, Ben Bauer and Jessica Bauer; “Opa” to Michael, Alex and Kyle Alpen, Maddy and Declan Maher, Logan Bauer and Avi Bauer; and “Opapa” to Taylor and Cody Moore. Each name signified an important role that he would play in shaping the lives of his four children, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his loving brother Fred, wife Linda, and their three children, Stephanie, Rodney, and Jeremey Bauer in addition to his late brother Walter’s two sons, Chris and Jeff Bauer and their children.

While serving in the army in Fulda, Germany, he met his wife, Paula. For most of their lives they called East Haven and Guilford, Connecticut home, where they remained close to Ray’s parents, brothers, and extended family. Holidays were always special and became memorable family celebrations. After retirement, Ray and Paula traveled and enjoyed their winters in Fort Myers, Florida.

Ray was the ultimate family man–he was thoughtful, kind, patient and funny. Like a warm embrace, his unconditional love and support surrounded us always. We were never too old to seek advice and approval from our dad. He loved sports (an avid NY Giants fan), watching funny sitcoms and horse racing. Anyone who met Ray would see that he was a happy man; his wit, his smile and his laugh were contagious and his family will cherish every moment spent with him.

Ray worked for Western Electric which later became part of the Bell System, for 37years.

Visitation will be held at Keenan Funeral Home in North Branford on Friday June 3rd from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4th at St. George’s Catholic Church in Guilford, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
