Nicholas O. Amore

Nicholas O. Amore, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2022. He was the husband of the late Arlene Ann Pontecorvo Amore. Born October 3, 1925 on Chestnut St. in the Wooster Square neighborhood in New Haven, he was the son of the late John and Mary LaFemina Amore. Nick was a US Army veteran, and served his country twice, first as a mail delivery officer during the 1946 occupation of Japan after WWII, and again stateside during the Korean War. He worked for many years as an electronics technician and equipment installer in a wide range of industries.

Nick was gifted at many things. After retiring, he became an avid and accomplished woodworker. Later in his life, cooking with “Uncle Nick” became a family event. He would set the date, time, and menu, and family members would show up to be his sous-chefs! Nick was very interested in Italian American culture, and was a former member of the St. Catello Society.

Nick kept his mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles and kept his body strong with his beloved Exercycle - 5 miles a day! When asked how he would describe his life, he would first and always respond with one word - “Fortunate!” and then go on to tell many tales of his wonderful family and their antics and experiences. Born the 6th of 12 children, Nick lived the longest and was the last remaining of his 11 sisters and brothers Mary Savenelli, Ann Fluter, Vincent “Jimmy”, Alphonse, Frank, Anthony, Michael, Ernie, Charlie, Phil, and Joseph Amore. Nick is survived by over twenty nieces and nephews, and by his loving son and best friend, Scott N. Amore.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 4:007:00 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 10:45. A graveside service will be held in All Saints Cemetery at 11:00.
