Edythe J. Tanenbaum, 92, of New Haven, died peacefully on June 2, 2022. She was the beloved daughter of Fabian and Evelyn Rosenstein, and was born in New Haven in May, 1930. A graduate of Hillhouse High School, Edie received a degree in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticu­t State Teachers College and taught at schools in New Haven, Norwalk and in Woodbridge at Congregati­on B’nai Jacob’s Gan Hayeled Preschool. Most recently, she served as an administra­tive assistant at the New Haven Jewish Community Center for 30 years, retiring in 2014 at the age of 84. She was a longtime member of Congregati­ons Beth El Keser Israel and Beth Sholom, participat­ing in Sisterhood, musical production­s and many other activities. A talented musician, Edie could play piano by ear and enjoyed writing light-hearted poems and song lyrics.

Edie is survived by her four daughters, Lisa (Richard) Foster, Lori Zaret, Betsy (Edward) Bodling, and Ellen (Steven) Rubenfeld; ten grandchild­ren, Ashley Persino, Brandon, Trevor and Alex Foster, Wesley and Brian Bodling, Rebecca Vice, Joshua Zaret, Paul and Grace Rubenfeld, and six great-grandchild­ren. She shared a loving relationsh­ip with the late Fenmore Puklin for over 33 years and was previously married to the late Dr. J. Lawrence Tanenbaum with whom she raised her family in North Haven. She was predecease­d by her brother, Irwin Rosenstein, of Los Angeles, CA, whom she loved dearly. Edie was the heart and soul of her family and she loved them unconditio­nally. She always opened her home to family and friends for holidays and all manner of celebratio­ns. There are not enough words to describe how much she will truly be missed.

A graveside service for Edie will be held on Monday afternoon, June 6th at 1:30 at the Beth Sholom Cemetery, 25 Alling St., Hamden, CT.
