Adelaide H. Marx, age 94, passed away on the stormy morning of June 9, 2022 at Benchmark Senior Living in Hamden. She was the devoted wife of the late Christophe­r W. Marx for over 47 years until his passing in 2004. Adelaide was born on September 18, 1927, in London, England, the daughter of the late Stephen T. and Adelaide (Beddall) Hodgman, Jr. After relocating to the States from England at the age of 2, Addie was raised in Rye, NY. She attended Rye Country Day School, and furthered her education, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College, Class of 1949. She found enjoyment in gardening, playing tennis, badminton, walking, bridge games, and travelling and was an avid reader. Addie was involved in the Girls Scouts of America and enjoyed training her dogs and attending obedience classes. In 1964 Addie and Chris made Cheshire their home, where she worked for the Cheshire Public Schools as a dietitian and was well known at Chapman School where she served for over 20 years. She was a member of the First Congregati­onal

Church in Cheshire for over 50 years and was an active member with the Ladies’ Aide and Cheshire Women’s Club. Adelaide is the beloved mother of Timothy Marx and his wife, Marie of Westfield, MA, Cindy M. Christman and her husband, Steve of Ocean View, NJ, and Sarah Marx of Cheshire. She also leaves her granddaugh­ter, Alicia Marx of Salem, MA. She was predecease­d by her sister, Joan Stathdee, and many loving dogs. Addie’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 1PM at the First Congregati­onal Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive, Church, CT 06410. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private and at the convenienc­e of her family.
