Down the aisle

Anne Marie Nestor & James Kennedy

Manhattan. James was nervous about strutting his stuff for the first dance at the couple’s October wedding.

“Anne Marie has been a performer most of her life, so she’s an outstanding dancer,” James says. “I actually took a year of ballroom dancing, but I’m the worst dancer!”

After a month of lessons, Anne Marie and James swayed to “Better Than Love” by Griffin House at the University Club of New York, where the ceremony and reception were held.

Anne Marie’s family friend flew in from India to officiate the wedding and the couple wrote their own vows.

“Being able to articulate how much I care about her meant a lot to me,” says James, who works in finance.

It took James a couple months before he mustered the courage to ask out Anne Marie, an actress, back in April 2006 when they both worked at a bank. He had no idea the feeling was mutual.

“James was so charismatic and friendly. I would look forward to going to work because then I would get to see him,” remembers Anne Marie.

After their first date when they dined at Park Avenue Cafe and saw “Spamalot,” they talked every day and soon became an item.

During a New Year’s trip to South Africa in 2010, James thought he had the proposal all figured out — that is, until their elephant ride.

“Our guide was talking about an engagement the day before,” James explains. “I was wondering, ‘Why don’t I have the ring!’ ”

A few days later, James popped the question while overlooking the view from the Westcliff hotel in Johannesburg.

“He went down on one knee, which he couldn’t have done on the elephant!” Anne Marie exclaims. “It was the most romantic time of our life besides our wedding.”
