Lindsay Calderon & Ronald Duque

- Alison Bowen

Queens. Lindsay and Ronald married in the church where Ronald’s parents exchanged vows, and where his grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Lindsay, 29, a dental hygienist, and Ronald, 35, senior operations engineer at Pictela, met in 2007 when mutual friends held an engagement party in New York.

Ronald asked for her number, and called her 20 minutes later — just to make sure it was the right one.

She was a bridesmaid and he was a groomsman, and they traveled together to Las Vegas for the wedding. After the wedding, she finally accepted his offer of a date, and they went to Houston’s for dinner and a holiday party.

“That started it all,” Lindsay says. “I guess in that sense, what happened in Vegas definitely didn’t stay in Vegas.”

The couple, who live in Englewood, N.J., got engaged in 2010. Ronald had traveled to Lindsay’s home in New Jersey from his in Hollis, Queens, to ask her parents for permission to marry her.

To throw her off course, he said he couldn’t get up the nerve to ask her father.

But hours later, he surprised her by proposing, after he had, in fact, got her father’s permission.

“I’m laying on the couch, and I didn’t notice this at the time, he was actually kneeling,” she remembers.

The ceremony was at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish in Jamaica, followed by a reception at Fox Hollow in Woodbury, L.I.

“It was just great to see and have everybody there at the same time,” Lindsay says.
