Jordan denies News report he’d bail on Bobcats

Responding to a report in the Daily’s News, Michael Jordan said in a statement Sunday he was “100% committed” to the Charlotte Bobcats and had no intention of selling the struggling NBA franchise. The Bobcats have lost 12 of 14 and own the league’s worst record at 7-43, but Jordan said he wasn’t ready to bail out on the team he became majority owner of in March 2010. Daily News NBA columnist Mitch Lawrence reported Sunday that Jordan has contemplat­ed selling if the team doesn’t turn things around — both in performanc­e and profitabil­ity. n Rajon Rondo had his fifth triple-double of the season and the Celtics handed the visting Heat its biggest loss of the season, 91-72. Rondo finished with 16 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds.

KIM MISSES 1-FOOTER, LOSES

Sun Young Yoo won the Kraft Nabisco Championsh­ip in Rancho Mirage, Calif., with an 18-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, the 18th, for her first major after fellow South Korean I.K. Kim missed a 1-foot putt on the final hole of regulation that would have won it. Yoo (69), who earned her second LPGA Tour victory, and Kim (69) finished at 9-under 277. After her clinching long birdie try just missed, Kim appeared to have struck the tap-in oddly, and it toured the lip of the cup before coming out on the same side it entered. Top-ranked Yani Tseng (73), who blew a Sunday lead at the Kraft Nabisco for the second straight year, had a chance to join the playoff, but pushed a long birdie putt wide by an inch.

Kim had made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole and a 20-footer on the 17th to break a three-way tie for the lead.

n Hunter Mahan shot a 1-under 71 for a 272 total to win the Houston Open, edging Carl Pettersson (71) by one stroke. Thirdround leader Louis Oosthuizen (75) was another shot back.

NEWMAN TAKES ADVANTAGE

Ryan Newman ended a 22-race winless streak by holding on to win n NASCAR’S Goody’s 500 at Martinsvil­le (Va.) Speedway, grabbing the lead when a three-wide accident took out leading teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson with two laps to go. A.J. Allmending­er finished second, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr.

SENS TOP ISLES, CLINCH BERTH

Kyle Turris scored twice and had a pair of assists, Milan Michalek added his team-leading 35th goal and the Senators clinched a playoff berth with a 5-1 win over the host Islanders.
