Light term for G-man

AN FBI agent whose steamy affair with a confidential source led to his conviction for making false statements was sentenced to prison Monday for one year and one day.

Adrian Busby, 38, asked for mercy at his sentencing, saying not a day goes by that he doesn’t reflect on what he did.

“I made a lot of mistakes and I’m deeply sorry for that,” said Busby, who faced up to nearly three years in prison.

Manhattan Federal Court Judge Harold Baer cut the G-man a break, even though he agreed Busby’s conduct was “unprofessional.”

Baer noted that since his ex-wife left him, Busby has had sole custody of their three children.

Prosecutors said Busby abused the public’s trust when he signed up his lover Yanet Salazar as a confidential source in January 2008 and then lied to help impede a Queens district attorney’s mortgage fraud investigation of her.

After she was arrested by Queens prosecutors, Busby then provided confidential, sensitive law enforcement reports to her defense attorney and lied to his bosses about doing it.

Salazar was convicted in 2009, the same year the affair ended.

The Daily News was the first to report that Busby was under investigation in a January 2011 story.

He has been on administrative leave without pay and is now in the process of being fired.

Outside court, Busby expressed bitterness toward Queens prosecutors but admitted that he “screwed up.”

He also said he was worried about going to jail May 15.

“I don’t know how my family is going to survive,” he said.
