Down the aisle

Jennifer Stock & Geremy Schulick

- Alison Bowen

Music has woven its way through Jennifer and Geremy’s relationship.

The two met in 2008, when Jennifer, a composer and artist, was rehearsing with Geremy’s roommate.

Geremy, a musician, had been teaching guitar lessons and was cranky. “I wanted to see if I could cheer him up,” Jennifer remembers.

She convinced him to go out for a drink. Later, after she went to a couple of his concerts, he asked her out.

“I was pretty shy about asking her out on a real date,” Geremy says.

The two, both 31, went to a lot of concerts, sharing a love of electronic music and other kinds of new music. They also bought a Super Nintendo, sharing ownership and trading it back and forth between their apartments.

They got engaged in February 2011, with Geremy surprising Jennifer with dinner at The Grocery restaurant in Carroll Gardens.

“I showed up thinking we were going to a lovely dinner for our anniversary,” Jennifer says.

Instead, when they went to exchange presents he had promised would be small — she got him halvah, his favorite snack — he pulled out a ring box.

They married at Smack Mellon, a gallery in DUMBO.

The caterers were from Lilla Cafe, one of their favorite places to eat in their Carroll Gardens neighborhood. They also were able to secure one of their favorite musicians, Daedelus, to come from Los Angeles to perform; the music included a remix of the hora.

“That was sort of a dream come true for me,” she says.

Jennifer, also a video artist, created beautiful projections on the wall of the space.

During the hora, the bride and groom were lifted on chairs.

“That was my favorite moment, because that was just pure ecstasy and abandon,” Jennifer says. “Everyone was just wild.”
