Gibbs’ 27 power Seton past RU

STERLING GIBBS scored 27 points, and center Eugene Teague collected 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Seton Hall past Rutgers, 77-71, on Sunday at the RAC in Piscartawa­y.

Gibbs sank two free throws with 1:25 to go and two more with 23.9 on the clock to help seal it. Seton Hall (6-3) snapped a three-game losing streak to its in-state rival Rutgers (4-7).

Myles Mack led Rutgers with 20 points, and backcourt mate Jerome Seagears had 18.

Teague came through with his second straight doubledoub­le, making up for the loss of leading scorer Fuquan Edwin, who was out with an ankle injury suffered in the previous game.

MANHATTAN 75, MON

MOUTH 66: Rhamel Brown scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help propel Manhattan to a comeback win in Riverdale.

Brown got help from Tyler Wilson, who contribute­d a career-high 15 points, Emmy Andujar with 13, and George Beamon with 11 to remain undefeated in the MAAC.

The Jaspers (6-2, 2-0) trailed by six at the break, 39-33, then took control with a 25-9 run in the first 11 minutes after intermissi­on.

Monmouth (3-6, 0-2) outrebound­ed the Jaspers 45-39 but hit just 18 of its 52 shots from the field (35%), and shot just 7-of-19 from 3-point range.

IONA 83, FAIRFIELD 72: Sean Armand scored 28 points and David Laury had 19 along with 10 rebounds as Iona beat Fairfield in Bridgeport.

Armand shot 9-of-17 from the field and 9-for-11 from the line—adding to his 21.2 season scoring average.

Iona (5-2, 2-0 MAAC) jumped out to a 17-7 advantage, but Fairfield (1-8, 0-2) surged back to take the lead before Iona tied it at 31 and then built a 46-37 halftime lead.

NIAGARA 61, ST. PETER’S 56: Antoine Mason pumped in a season-high 35 points and host Niagara scored 46 in the second half to come from behind and defeat St. Peter’s.

Mason — the current NCAA scoring leader at 28.8 ppg — made 13 of 24 shots for Niagara (2-8, 0-1 MAAC). Rayvon Harris added 10 points and eight rebounds.

St. Peter’s (2-6, 0-1) shot only 26% (8-for-31) in the first half, but Niagara fared worse, shooting just 22% (6-for-27) and trailing 23-15 at the break.

RIDER 90, QUINNIPIAC 78: Daniel Stewart scored 25 points, one of three Rider players to score 20-plus, as the host Broncos (4-4) beat Quinnipiac (5-3).

SAN DIEGO ST. 70, WASHINGTON 63: Following a sluggish first half in which the Aztecs trailed by nine at the break, host No. 24 San Diego State rallied for the victory.

Xavier Thames scored 19 points, and Winston Shepard added 17 for the Aztecs (7-1), who won their sixth straight.

C.J. Wilcox led Washington (4-4) with 17 points, Nigel Williams-Goss added 14 for the Huskies, coming off a win against Long Beach State, ranked No. 24 at the ti me.
