Cathedral High School

Starting on the Path to a Career in Medicine or Law

-

Academic success has been synonymous with Cathedral since its founding in 1905. Cathedral welcomes young women of all faiths and cultures. It is a community of students, teachers, staff and parents committed to excellence in education, as well as the continued growth of its students in religious maturity, moral integrity and a sense of social justice.

As a Catholic college preparatory school, Cathedral has educated generations of young women to meet their scholastic potential. Aside from offering an honors program and numerous Advanced Placement courses, Cathedral also offers programs in medicine, law, business and foreign languages, which include Spanish, Mandarin, American Sign Language and Latin. Electives, such as forensic science and anatomy, digital photography, women’s studies, broadcasting and journalism, graphic design, art and music, are also among the school’s offerings.

Cathedral is immensely proud of its Gateways to Health program. Through partnerships with New York’s worldclass medical community, students have opportunities to observe medical professionals at work and to participate in internships while still in high school. The students receive first-hand experience in institutions such as Beth Israel, New York University, New York Presbyterian and Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center.

In the law program, students participate in internships with law firms, take special classes and attend Saturday workshops that explore different legal and professional topics. The program goes hand in hand with the Catholic value of social justice.

Extracurricular activities keep the career-minded student body well rounded. Drama, cheerleading, marching band, dance, musical theater, choir, basketball, soccer, softball, lacrosse, volleyball and more allow young women at Cathedral to explore a wide variety of interests.

Cathedral prepares its students for the world that lies ahead of them. All members of the Class of 2013 were accepted into college, which included schools such as College of the Holy Cross, NYU Polytechnic, New York University and Villanova University. They received over $20 million in college scholarships and grants.

Cathedral High School is located at 350 E. 56th St. (between 1st and 2nd avenues) in New York City. For more information, please contact Johanna Velez at (212) 688-1545 ext. 224 or jcastex@cathdralhs.org. You can also visit our website at www.cathedralhs.org.
